<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14016/2208685/find foods.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="670" width_o="2048" height_o="2048" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14016/2208685/find foods_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14016/2208685/fine foods closeup.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="670" width_o="2048" height_o="2048" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14016/2208685/fine foods closeup_o.jpg" align="left" />
Being one of the more established BHS gift brands, the client didn’t want to stray too far away from the previous year’s packaging which referenced classic high-end English confectionary and food brands. A premium food range, the packaging for Fine Foods Co. needed to speak volumes, so finishes like foil blocking, gloss and UV spot varnishes alleviated the cost bracket of these products. A large range, the design had to be considered to work across a variety of formats and sizes.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14016/2208685/for him.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="670" width_o="2048" height_o="2048" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14016/2208685/for him_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14016/2208685/for him close up.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="670" width_o="2048" height_o="2048" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14016/2208685/for him close up_o.jpg" align="left" />
For a mid-range male target market, the packaging for For Him needed to be clean and simple. An all-caps sans serif in two different colours of foil block stands out of the matt navy base.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14016/2208685/cocktail.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="670" width_o="2048" height_o="2048" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14016/2208685/cocktail_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14016/2208685/cocktail closeup.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="670" width_o="2048" height_o="2048" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14016/2208685/cocktail closeup_o.jpg" align="left" />
Cocktail Lounge was a range that needed to appear glamorous as some of the products were being sold at a higher price point. Inspired by premium brands champagne brands like Moet & Chandon, we incorporated a UV spot varnish on the starburst holding device to mimic diamante’s without actually using them.

A project based around understanding three-dimensional form, this 'garment' challenges the generic way in which clothes are worn. This long strip of fabric is double-sided and intended to be however the customer sees fit. It can be worn on its own, or as part of an outfit. It's assemblage also means it can fit any gender, and of any size.

The building lets in copious amounts of light, thus reflecting the light quality of the food. The large glass windows also enable the customer to look out to the surrounding natural environment, making them feel as if they are outdoors without the discomfort or restriction of weather. To strengthen this idea, the furniture is made of white iron and shaped in such ways to create intricate shadows that hint at the unique Asian menu.

Again, the Cahaya logo is die-cut to match the namecards and match-holders with the brand philosophy explained on the opening page.

The top of each page is perforated making it easy to rip out and place the order.

The logo comprises of 4 acute triangles representing shards of light filtering through cracks in a window.

The skirt doubles up as an apron that wraps around the waist and folds down, revealing a perfectly-sized pocket for the custom-made order books and writing utensils. The style of this skirt/apron is not disimilar to the traditional Indonesian sarong, worn by both men and women. Finished with a pair of white plimsols, waitresses and waiters alike will be comfortable on their feet.

In celebration of New Era's 90th Anniversary, 90 graduates were invited to design and submit their own take on a classic New Era cap. The idea behind this cap is the Gentleman's Brogue, which is a classic as well in it's own right. All 90 submissions were compiled in a coffee-table book as well as a touring exhibition that started at the Dray Walk Gallery in London.

Many paper mills over the decades have started producing varying type of papers that either use a percentage of recycled stock, meet environmental body standards, or use a renewable energy or localised production method. But how does a designer decide between a paper that uses hydro-power and one that is made using 100% post-consumer waste? What does it all mean? The issue is a minefield within itself but here is a guide for graphic designers of most of the paper stocks available. Split into sections of similar properties, each paper has its name, price, size, and thickness printed alongside a small description and a test of its printing quality. Each section is stitched down the middle with the information on the left-hand side and a Cyan, Magenta and Yellow ink-jet print-test on the other; all the sections are contained in a laser-etched slip box.

Initially a point of research, this series of interviews and discussions soon became a project within itself. The gold, letter-pressed quotes are juxtaposed by the lightweight, inexpensive newsprint, encouraging the audience to think about the value of the object: letterpress being such a precious and time-consuming practice on newsprint, a very disposable material. The pull-quotes are not only a symbol of value but also signifies a running theme throughout their work or their philosophy on the subject matter of sustainability within design. I have my reasons for choosing the people I interviewed, which may or may not be evident through my questions or their responses, and there are definitely others that I would have liked to speak with.

There have been edits from the original recordings and transcriptions to enable the text to read easier, and through dialogue between the interviewees and the interviewer, some parts have been edited or discounted. Though there are some questions that were common to all interviews, I tried to keep a sense of individualism, thoroughly researching each individual to the best of my ability before personalising and sculpting certain questions specifically for that person. This was to create more of an understanding of fragments of their lives that have got them to where they are today and therefore understand their views on the broader subject matter.

Purpose built purely for the pursuit of knowledge and training within the creative arts, the Lethaby building has naturally evolved over the years to accommodate increasing subjects, students and practices. In response to the continuous progression of the industry, the college has undergone extensive remodelling and room changes. With the college’s move to a King’s Cross campus looming, this series of floor plans maps the changes from the first architectural plans to the current, as the building stands now. As there is a lack of information on incremental amendments, we did not want to speculate and have therefore provided sufficient notation space for your own customisation. Through our own experience here, we have noticed that the building gains it’s character from the people that have - and still do - occupy it, and therefore encourage you to make your own mark.
